There is no quarterback controversy in Chicago. The Bears clearly have a field general who can take this team to the next level. Unfortunately this field general right now is second in duty, stuck behind Rex Grossman. Grossman reamins the number one quarterback in front of Brian Griese. Despite all of the pre-season numbers, all logic, and all of his experience. To me, this decision just does not make sense, but Lovie Smith and Co. are still saying that ''He's our No. 1 quarterback.'.
Do not think for one moment that I don't think Grossman can lead a team to a Super Bowl at some point. He has shown that he has the physical tools, the pocket presence, and overall ability to lead a team. I just don't think he can do it this year. This thought is ba
sed off one critcal item and one only: Inexperience. All of the tools Grossman has are hindered by lack of actual playing time, run at actual NFL speed. He needs to see more of the playing field than the rehab center or the sidelines. However, this should not be the year he comes off the sidelines unless Griese goes down. Brian Griese has shown us in games, not in practice, that he deserves the starting job. After all, that's what traing camp is about, right? Figuring out who the best personel for your team is?
After a stellar 11-5 last season, the Bears' only mission this year is to get to the Super Bowl. This is not a rebuilding year where the Bears should throw an inexperienced field general into the war and pray. The Bears didn't bring in a veteran quarterback so he could watch from the sidelines. Griese is the man that can take the Bears to the next level. Grossman can not. At least not yet.
So yes, there is a contoversy in Chicago. Hopefully the coaching staff will open its eyes before week 1 and make the right decision for the team.
