The Houston Texans have released third year quarterback Cody Pickett. Why does this matter to 49ers fans you say. Well since Pickett was released the 49ers will not receive the seventh round pick they traded Pickett for. The 49ers traded Cody Pickett back in July to the Texans for an undisclosed seventh round draft pick, once the details of the trade were revealed it was determined that the 49ers would only receive the seventh rounder if Pickett made the Texans squad. Unfortunately he did not.

Cody Pickett was drafted in the seventh round of the 2004 NFL draft, one of then general manager Terry Donahue's final picks in the organization. Head coach Mike Nolan tried finding a spot on the team for Pickett, trying him out at safety, wide receiver, and even had him playing special teams. But in the end there was just no room for Pickett. It's unfortunate because the seventh round pick from the Texans would have made up for the seventh the 49ers gave up when they acquired Trent Dilfer from Cleveland.
