Cam Sexton to Start for Tar Heels
Two days ago I wrote that it was time to sit Joe down and hand the reigns over to redshirt freshman Cam Sexton. Guess what?
John Bunting must be reading my work because today he named Cam Sexton as the starter for this Saturday's game against Furman.
This could mean one of two things. Either I'm smart enough to be a division I football coach, or I'm as indecisive as the North Carolina coaching staff appears to be.
In either case, I think giving Sexton the starting job is the wise move.
If you have two players of equal ability, it makes more sense in the long term interest of the program to start the younger player and get him game experience.
If Sexton stinks up the joint beyond belief, then the Heels still have an experienced quarterback waiting in the wings who can help with damage control.
This move may not pay immediate dividends. But a year or two down the road, the Tar Heels will be in much better shape than if they stuck with Dailey, who's most likely shown all he's capable of producing at the Division I level.
