Austin Westlake senior and Texas 2007 commit Matt Nader collapsed on the sideline during his team's game tonight against A&M Consolidated. The highly rated offensive lineman was seated on the bench when he suddenly fell backward. His mother performed CPR and an emergency medical crew (which are present at all Texas high school football games) used a defibrillator on him when they did not detect a pulse. The football game was suspended.

Nader is resting in a College Station hospital where he reportedly is alert and talking. He'll be kept overnight for observation and for some tests but he seems to be doing much better now. We'll have more information on his long-term health when it becomes available.

It appears that Matt will be okay but the news definitely puts things like the disappointment from last week in better perspective. The thoughts of the entire Longhorn nation are with the young man and his family.
