I pay fairly close attention to the Texans, probably more than what is rationally advisable. So I've got the binoculars out at the game and notice "Thomas Johnson" (all the letters on the back of the jersey), playing next to Travis Johnson who I do know, and I'm saying to myself, "Self, who the #@!! is that guy, and what the #@!! is he doing in the game?"
With all the signings and releases and shuffling around the practice squad, it is easy to lose track.
Thomas Johnson was signed by the Texans on September 6th from the Cowboys practice squad. He is a second year player from Middle Tennessee State who from what I can tell was on the Dallas Cowboys practice squad for most of last year. The Texans depth chart on its website doesn't have a bio up yet. He backs up Seth Payne.
The other Johnson had a better Sunday than Robaire Smith, the defensive tackle recently released by the Texans. Smith was signed by the Titans, and injured his hamstring in the first quarter of the game after he jumped off-sides.
I guess I should say, "Welcome to the team, uh TJ2." (Unless, of course, you are cut by the time I post this, then I will give you my best wishes).
