Bad Officiating Even Score Between Pac Ten, Big XII

After cries of dismay and calls to overturn the result of the Oklahoma-Oregon game--not from crazy fans but from University and Conference officials--and death threats, all because of a bad call, the Pac Ten conference has graciously decided to suspend the referees who essentially gave Saturday's inter-sectional match-up to the home-town Ducks.

Alas, this was not the first instance in 2006 where bad officiating has determined the outcome of a game between Pac Ten and Big XII schools. In the 2006 Rose Bowl game, poor calls by Big Ten officials essentially spotted the University of Texas a 14-point advantage over USC.

After reviewing the Rose Bowl tape, Pac Ten referee coordinator Verle Sorgen said that two plays--a Reggie Bush forward pass ruled a fumble (pictured, above) and a play where Vince Young's knee was down before pitching the ball to lead to an eventual touchdown--were incorrectly called on the field. The NCAA agreed. However, I don't seem to recall hearing anyone say that Texas should lose their BCS Title, now, do we?
