In the year I have predicted the Falcons will go to the Super Bowl, it's fitting that the man who kicked the Falcons into their first Super Bowl was signed again by the team, becoming the second oldest player in NFL history. Morten Andersen, signed Tuesday, cemented his place in Falcons' history in the 1999 NFC Championship game, when he kicked a 38-yarder in overtime, sending the underdog Dirty Birds to the Super Bowl. Andersen is being brought in to handle short field goals of 40 yards or less and it couldn't come at a better time, since current kicker Michael Koenen has struggled in the kicking game, missing 6 of 8 in the first two games. As for Andersen, there's no denying his accuracy, especially when it comes to field goals under 40 yards. In 23 NFL seasons (no, that's not a typo), Andersen has made 160 of 164 field-goals between 20 and 29 yards and 171 of 196 field goals between 30 to 39 yards. It's great to know Andersen will be a part of another Falcons Super Bowl season, but best part of this move in the long run may be having the 46-year-old veteran to help Koenen develop his game.
