This week's AOL House Meeting asks who's "Captain Comeback"--which quarterback do you want leading your team back in the fourth quarter?Perhaps the most elusive quarterback in the Pac Ten, the University of Washington's Isaiah Stanback had made his mark on the College Football world in two short weeks in September.
Most observers had the Washington Huskies at the bottom of the Pac Ten this year, competing with Stanford for mediocrity, but Stanback has carried the team to two late upset victories that have some Husky fans dreaming of a trip to the Las Vegas Bowl.
After taking Oklahoma to the locker room tied before losing in Norman, Washington hosted the tenacious Fresno State Bulldogs. Tied with the Bulldogs going into the fourth quarter, Stanback led the Huskies on a nine-play, 50 yard drive. En route, Stanback completed 3-of 3 passes for 22 yards and rushed for 15 yards and two first downs as he put the Huskies up for good.
The following week, Stanback's Huskies trailed the vaunted UCLA Bruins 19-14 going into the final quarter. Stanback had already put his Huskies in a position to win the game after trailing 16-0 early, but then he turned on the after-burners. On the ground and in the air, Isaiah accounted for 40 of 46 yards on the go-ahead drive, then he completed a pass on the 2-point conversion for good measure.
While his Washington Huskies may not be the greatest team around, Isaiah Stanback--accounting for what feels like two-thirds of their offense single-handedly--is somehow carrying them to victory at the end of the game--and isn't that what counts?
