The Daily News reports that three players have been cut by the Jets:

Norm Katnik - Katnik was a practice squadder for San Francisco that the Jets acquired at the end of last season for depth. Katnik played college ball at USC and according to Daily News writer Rich Cimini last spring, was thought to be someone for which the Jets had high hopes. Cutting Katnik likely means that Trey Teague AND Pete Kendall are ready to ready to return to the field.

Ryan Myers - Myers was a special teams contributor, which to me signifies that Mangini's pet project, former Ohio State LB Anthony Schlegel is ready for duty.

Trevor Johnson - To me, this is somewhat dismaying, I thought that Johnson had a good preseason, but I am not too sure what this means ... does this mean that Matt Chatam might have a more active role at OLB?

In addition to these moves, The Daily News also notes that the Jets have brought in former Falcon Safety Keion Carpenter for a workout. Does this mean that Derrick Strait or Eric Coleman should be concerned for their job? The Jets also tried out two OLB type players (~6'2"+ ~250 lbs.) in Ryan Riddle and Cody Spencer.

As I write all this, I must say that I don't remember tracking as many roster moves during the season over the past few years. For the most part, once the roster was set, there wasn't still a lot of bringing in, signing, cutting, re-signing of players. Clearly this has changed. I like the fact that the Jets are constantly trying to improve their roster, and keep guys who are on the team but might be down the roster striving to get better.
