Maybe Terrence Kiel Just Had a Friend in Texas With an Itchy Throat
Yesterday was a fantastic day for an NFL player to commit a crime. If only Odell Thurman had a better sense of timing.
More details emerged today about Kiel's arrest. Kiel admitted to shipping two parcels of prescription cough syrup to Texas. If you're wondering what's incriminating about prescription cough syrup, it's used to make a liquid drug often called "lean," "purple drank," or "sizzurp." The ingredients for the drink include promythazine cough syrup (the promythazine is key), Sprite, and a purple Jolly Rancher. It's known to produce an extremely relaxed and mellow feeling.
Kiel was shipping the cough syrup to Texas, he's from Texas, and Texas is where "lean" became popular. The two biggest reasons I know any of this, I'm ashamed to say, are Paul Wall, Mike Jones (both Houston rappers), and a song by Frayser Boy entitled "I Got Dat Drank." I believe it's the only rap song to ever rhyme the word "promythazine."
Marlon McCree is expected to slide over to Kiel's strong safety spot for the Chargers on Sunday against Baltimore, and Bhawoh Jue will start at the free safety position.
