Auburn ball from the South Carolina one yard line, fourth and goal, what will the Tigers do?

Kenny Irons dives for the touchdown! This play is under review... looks like a touchdown before he lost the ball after the score.

Yep, review say the score stands, ball broke the plane.

Auburn leads South Carolina 24-10 with 14:52 left in the fourth quarter.

Fifth South Carolina Possession

Interesting stat: Auburn is outscoring opponents 38-0 in the fourth quarter this year.

Kickoff taken back for a short return to the South Carolina 12, plus the holding penalty so this one's marching back a bit.

South Carolina first down from their seven. Cory Boyd gets the inside handoff for South Carolina's first offensive possession of the second half, six yards. Newton hits McKinley on the short pass but he slips through the Auburn defense for a first down. It looks like Auburn's defense is just as rusty as South Carolina's is tired.

Incomplete pass downfield on first down trying to get the ball to Sidney Rice. Pass to Boyd in the flats on second down for six or seven yards, South Carolina has switched to no nuddle. No backfield on third and four, Newton scrambling, finally finds the tight end for about 16 yards but there's a flag. March it back, as a procedural call goes against South Carolina. Third and nine as some rain begins to fall. Newton avoids the sack and scrambles for a few more yards but he's still about two yards short. South Carolina is going for it on fourth and two here... and they hit the slant to McKinley, nice call, nice conversion. That's eight catches for McKinley, sealing off David Irons for the first down. Sidney Rice may just be a decoy tonight for South Carolina.

Delayed handoff to Boyd, who gains five or six yards. Quick hit wide receiver screen to Noah Whiteside, who breaks a tackle and gets the first down but limps off the field.

Did Herbie just call Erin Andrews "poopsie"?

Another short screen to Chris Hale who also nearly gets the first down, gaining about nine yards and putting the ball inside the Auburn 50. Newton gets pressured and he tucks and runs for the first down.

Quick handoff to Davis who runs for about four yards. Lots of crowd shots of people trying to take cover from the rain. A fade pass on second down falls just incomplete to McKinley who comes down limping after the play. Third and five for South Carolina, but they call a timeout. There is 9:20 left in the game, so they've responded to Auburn's long drives with a long time-consuming drive of their own. Back after the commercial break.

South Carolina's drive so far? Six minutes, 13 plays. Third and five here...Newton eludes the rush and AGAIN rushes for the first down.

Newton tries to run again but his lineman's leg tripped him up at the last second. Second and twelve, Newton hits the tight end wide open down the middle for the touchdown, Jared Cook!! 25-yard touchdown for the Gamecocks and they're back in this game with 8:25 left.

Auburn leads South Carolina 24-17.

Seventh Auburn Possession

Now Auburn mishandles the kickoff but recovers it and gets to the 20 before their returnman gets badly upended. Ouch..... That was ugly.

Irons runs right for about five yards, nice run on first down. Irons gets it again and runs for a few more, setting up third and two for Auburn. Cox changes the play at the line and hands off to Irons who leaps into the air but is denied once again by... Jasper Brinkley. Big stop for South Carolina. Punt time. Bliss just killed that ball, 69+ yards in the air before going out of the back of the end zone for the touchback.

Sixth South Carolina Possession

5:24 left...

Newton hits Moe Brown in the flats, who then runs upfield for nine yards, second and one. First shot tonight of former starting QB Blake Mitchell. Newton gets pressured and throws the ball away, third and one now. Newton sneaks and gets the first down.

Newton runs once again for seven yards. Quick screen to the receiver but nothing going, a loss of a yard, in fact. Third and four for South Carolina now with under 3:40 left. Newton throws way too low to McKinley on the slant, fourth down for the Gamecocks. Here we go, this is probably the ballgame on fourth down... and South Carolina calls a time out with 3:26 left. Rollout and Newton completes the out route to Sidney Rice! First down South Carolina. That was just Rice's second catch of the night and it stopped the clock.

Newton hits Boyd in the flat and he breaks tackles and gets the first down. 3:14 left, ball on the Auburn 40.

Newton tosses a nice fade to Rice but he bobbles it and the pass fell incomplete. Flag on the field... offsides against Auburn! That's a nice save for South Carolina, repeat first down plus five yards. I stand corrected, the corner Lee got his hands in the play and broke that pass up.

Newton tries the same exact play as the last touchdown to the same player, Cook, and he DROPPED IT! Unbelievable. That guy just went from hero to goat.Newton scrambles and again gets the first down after shaking pursuit. South Carolina ball inside the Auburn 25. That is the sixth time today Newton has run for a first down, Chris Fowler reports.

Auburn brings the pressure and Newton smartly gets rid of the football. Second down... bad throw by Newton almost intercepted but dropped by the Auburn defensive back. Third down and ten, thrown to the back of the end zone to Rice, incomplete. This is literally fourth and game with 2:28 left. FIRST DOWN! Newton hits Rice right at the first down marker. Officials are measuring this one... and he got it by the length of the football.

This drive so far: 14 plays, 66 yards, 2:12 left on the clock.

Quick hitter to a receiver on first down, getting down to the seven yard line, second and three. Auburn blitzes and finally sacks Newton at a really bad time for South Carolina. Nice blitz call by Auburn. Third and eleven, Rice leaps into the air and hauls it in but he's a bit short and South Carolina calls the time out to set up fourth down. TV timeout.

The last time South Carolina beat a top five team: 1981.

Fade pass falls incomplete on fourth and short, two defenders on Sidney Rice as Auburn blitzes. Well defended play.

Auburn will win this game 24-17 as South Carolina falls just short of the tie with 0:19 left in the game.

Game Over.

Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville to Erin Andrews: "I looked like a genius tonight". Heh.
