Where in the World Was Lional Dalton?

In the "I Didn't Realize That Until Now" category, Lional Dalton was inactive for the last game. Taking his place was Steve Williams, fresh from the practice squad.

Does this signal anything? Before the first game, Dalton expressed his disappointment that he was not going to be the starter. Dalton had indicated that he received offers elsewhere, but elected to stay in Kansas City because he assumed that he would be the starter. Still, Dalton saw a lot of action in the first two games, but he did not register a single tackle.

Did Dalton play his way off of the defensive tackle rotation? The Chiefs planned on rotating their defensive tackles constantly, thinking that, without any impact players at the position, at least they can have fresh players there. After making a surprising impact in 2004, Dalton was sporadic at best last year, and apparently did not take well to not being in the starting rotation this year.

Which brings us to Steve Williams. We know very little about him. An undrafted rookie, he ascended pretty quickly up the depth charts during training camp. Unlike Dalton, Williams actually registered a tackle this year. He might simply be a guy who's brought in to provide a little energy, but this certainly doesn't bode well for Dalton's future in Kansas City. It may not seem like a really a big deal, but Williams' playing time in the next few games could be something worth watching.
