Yes. There's this hilarious AP article floating around that says "Like, uh, Manningham could be injured maybe but we don't know." I get Google news feeds about Michigan in my RSS reader and so have seen an entire nation attempt to headline this article. It's great. Next up: "Meteor may be striking Earth today."
Anyway, that's no better than some random guy on a blog, but the Detroit News has actually asserted that Mario is injured:
Michigan's standout sophomore receiver Mario Manningham was expected to undergo arthroscopic surgery this morning to repair a partial torn meniscus and a possible partial tear of a medial collateral ligament in a knee, according to a source familiar with the situation.Score one for the internet rumor mill, which had "torn meniscus" yesterday afternoon.
This is where some sort of goofy Super Mario Brothers reference goes, isn't it?
What's the prognosis? There's no way he plays against Penn State and Iowa is extremely unlikely as well. If it is just a torn meniscus, though, that is a two to three week injury and he would be back for Ohio State. If there's a partial MCL tear he's done until the bowl game or possibly for the year.
AAAAH AAAAAH WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE DIE DIE AAAAH
There are other players on the team who do not suck. Adrian Arrington is coming into his own, has the necessary deep speed, and a knack for the spectacular catch. It's a blow, no doubt, but Michigan is still a moderate favorite against a mediocre Penn State team this weekend. And they should still win.
