It's pretty fun to watch these Florida fans drink the Kool-Aid. They beat a decent LSU team at home and now they think they're headed to Arizona in January. Never mind, that Alabama had them on their heels for three quarters or that they struggled against Kentucky .
I want to share with you a post by Florida FanHouse writer Ryan Ferguson. Here's an excerpt from a story he ran Thursday. In it, he interviews a character named Swampy (I couldn't make this crap up) and asks him to give insight into Saturday's game. You'll get a kick out of these "deep thoughts"...
RF: Let's talk Auburn for a minute. Some are wondering if this former #2 is a bit of a fraud; in addition to their blowout loss to a pretty good Arkansas squad, they had to rely on an unexpected on-sides kick during the 3rd quarter to wear down Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks. A review of Auburn's game against Arkansas shows a lot of screen passes and dumps off to the flat by Cox, who didn't have a great day. In short, the offense looked pretty one-dimensional, and as soon as the Tigers found themselves in a two-TD hole they were unable to pick up the pace and turn to the passing game. Going purely by that tape the Gators' D would seem prepared to have a field day on Saturday in Jordan-Haire stadium. Your thoughts?
Swampy: I've never seen a team that was more over-hyped than Auburn. It's a media creation. They made Tommy Tuberville appear like he was one of the SEC's elite coaches, even though everyone forgets it was a few years ago that the Auburn school administration was meeting secretly to find a new football coach. We have to give Spurrier an assist for exposing that Auburn team.
I think it will be hard for Auburn to deliver with what looks like their backs against the wall. I personally would like us to take care of Cox and the so-called Heisman candidate Kenny Irons. What did Irons have, but a half-season of success last year? They were calling him the next Bo Jackson before he even got started.
You've never seen a team more over-hyped than Auburn? Dude, have you looked in the mirror or do you live in a cardboard box? This is a group of people who were booing their starting quarterback two weeks ago.
How about this gem, "They made Tommy Tuberville appear like he was one of the SEC's elite coaches..." What planet have you been living on? Tuberville went 13-0 two years ago. Auburn was in New Orleans while you were enjoying the fruits of Ron Zook. He's won 20 of his last 22 SEC games. What's your record over that time?
And in case you didn't notice, Steve Spurrier is gone. Adios Amigos. He wears burgundy and black now. These people are getting as bad as Alabama and the Bear. Give it up. Spurrier left you. He'll be back for reunions, but that's all. Stop whining.
How long will it take the Gator "faithful" to start booing Chris Leak Saturday night? You can bet if they fall behind early, they'll turn on him faster than Steve Spurrier left town. After all, Florida used to be somebody. Now pass the Kool-Aid.
P.S. - Somebody teach Swampy how to spell Jordan-Hare.
