A Philadelphia Daily News writer, Paul Domowitch, is reporting that a "source" tells him that Corey Simon simply doesn't want to play football anymore. The article, found here, states that this source told the writer that the Colts placed Simon on the IR not because of Polyarthritis but because Simon simply doesn't want to play anymore. The Colts announced a few days ago that Simon had been placed on the IR with the illness Polyarthritis, which is arthritis in 5 or more joints. However, there was a bit of controversy on the subject with Colts owner Jim Irsay and Simon's agent. Here is what the article had to say about that...
But both Colts owner Jim Irsay and Simon's agent, Roosevelt Barnes, have disputed that."There was nothing conclusive or decisive that was diagnosed,'' Irsay said last week. "Corey said he couldn't return, couldn't go, couldn't participate.''If this is all true (I'm not saying it is, this "source" could be unreliable), Simon would still be collecting his $14 million in bonuses he received in his 6 year contract with the Colts. However, placing Simon on the IR does not obligate the Colts to pay the remaining $1.4 million of this years salary.
One more thing that this "source" told the writer is that the Colts will almost for sure let Simon go at the end of this year.
Yes, the source could be wrong, as Simon was supposedly in great shape going into this year. However, something is up when Irsay and Simon's own agent question his injury. Is he truly taking the money and running, or does he really have this illness? You decide.
