This is a sad day for Longhorn fans as defensive tackle Derek Lokey is out with a broken leg. Although they say he is out "indefinitely", it is likely he is done for the season. Luckily he is only a junior and will be able to return for his senior season.
"This is an unfortunate setback for Derek and our defense," said coach Mack Brown. "It will be important that someone steps up and fill his void for us to continue to be one of the best defenses in the country."
Lokey was starting on one of the best defensive lines in the nation, and on a team defense that was allowing only 46.5 yards per game on the ground. Another spot he will be sorely missed is in goal-line situations. Lokey would normally come in at the fullback position and block for Henry Melton, a tough combo to stop.
We wish him the best and a speedy recovery.
