Finally it's time for the Redskins' vacation, it couldn't come a moment too soon. The long weekend kicked off on Wednesday night after an injury depleted practice session. Because of the bye week, the players will be off until Monday morning giving them ample opportunity for fun, relaxation, and introspection. It's the one opportunity of the year for these guys to get the hell away from one another; considering their close quarters and troublesome start it must be a welcome reprieve. Regardless, everybody has their own separate plans for the weekend. I can't be sure exactly what everyone's plans may be, but I can sure as hell take some educated guesses...Joe Gibbs, Leader of Coaches- I'm hoping that the coaches are going to spend the weekend tweaking their flawed game plans. If I had my way they'd be preparing to transfer the play calling duties from Al Saunders to Coach Gibbs. Of course if Gibbs has his way he'll be mingling on the infield at this week's Nextel Cup stop, the Atlanta Bass Pro Shops 500 down in Atlanta. Frankly I'd rather spend my Saturday as Dan Snyder's wet-nurse.
Vinny Cerrato, Spender of Money- Vinny's recently been (rightly) criticized for thinking he can spend wildly on free agents and stiff his own young starters (I can't believe I miss Ryan Clark). Now his spending has forced the team to fill gaping holes with unproven players who Vinny swears can become the next Antonio Pierce. For a man like this there is no better weekend destination than the Signature Theater's production of My Fair Lady. Just call Lemar Marshall Eliza Doolittle from now on.
Mark Brunell, Chucker- Considering all of the criticism he's had to endure I'm guessing the qb will fall back on two things he cherishes, Jesus and the past. Well Destiny's Divine Wheel has spun in his favor this weekend; the Arthur M. Sackler gallery at the Smithsonian is featuring an exhibit called In the Beginning: Bibles Before the Year 1000. Now that sounds like a damn good time!
Check back soon, there's a lot of action in and around DC that might interest the Redskins and I'll be breaking it down all day.
