Tricky Amen Corner Awaits Auburn

What a weird season it has been. Auburn is 9-1 and we still don't know how good they are. Alabama and Georgia have a combined eight losses and we're not sure how bad they are. Have no fear, we'll all have those answers shortly.

It's Amen Corner time. And this promises to be unlike any we've seen in recent years. When was the last time Auburn's two biggest rivals each had four losses coming down the stretch? And there's a good bet Alabama will have five by the Iron Bowl.

Without question, the biggest cheer at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday came when Alabama and Georgia's scores came rolling in. Lost in the euphoria of that double whammy was the play of Auburn's offense.

Once again, statistically the Tiger offense looked good. But if you were at the game or watching on pay-per-view you saw a sloppy uneven performance by a unit that still hasn't played a complete game. It's easy to dismiss it and say that the players were not motivated and were just going through the motions.

But this offense had everything to play for on Saturday. They still have something to prove and time is running out. Saturday was an opportunity to click on all cylinders. But it wasn't close.

For Auburn to be playing in its 10th game of the season against a Sun Belt Conference team, the mistakes were disturbing. They continue to struggle in the red zone. Tommy Tuberville said there was no excuse for the offense not scoring in the 40's. Amen Brother. This offense is still looking for play-makers.

Because of the weakness of its remaining two opponents it may slide by - or it may not. Don't be lulled into a sense of false comfort heading into Georgia and Alabama. These two teams are still very dangerous. Tuberville acknowledged that during his post-game interview Saturday.

Georgia and Alabama have excellent athletes - capable athletes. Regardless of the records, both have the ability to beat the Tigers. Lets face it - Auburn's offense is average at best. Will that be enough to win on Saturday? It should. But it will be tougher on November 18th. The Tiger offense will have to deliver in the red zone to win. Alabama will be ready to play. Let's hope offensive coordinator Al Borges has his group ready - for once.
