NFL.com's Adam Schefter is reporting that Jay Cutler will be starting for the Broncos on December 3rd against Seattle, and quotes a Broncos team source as saying that Cutler would've been starting this week if it wasn't such a short week for the Broncos. And thus, I expect Jake Plummer to come out and throw for 280 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Chiefs, just to make Mike Shanahan's life more difficult. I'm not even kidding. It would be very Plummer-like to come out and have a great game just when you finally don't want him to.
That's the thing about Plummer. You never know when he's going to bust loose for a great game. Put him in a corner like this, make it a must-perform type of situation, and he just might come out and give all of doubters a big middle finger with a great game. Again, you just can't predict when Jake will have a great game. But what makes me feel like this is the right decision is the fact that you can predict when he'll have a bad game: January.
If Plummer had some kind of track record for stepping it up in the playoffs, I could see sticking with him. But ten weeks into this season, what you're getting is what you're getting, and there's no reason to believe it's going to miraculously get better anytime soon.
So we've got one more night of Jake Plummer, Broncos starting QB. Settle in for one last night of baffling decision, inaccurate throws, bounce passes, interceptions at the worst times and places, and the ten-or-so percent chance that he'll have a phenomenal game.
