Spurrier Downs a Different Bowden

A third and medium down in the South Carolina redzone ended with Will Proctor on the ground, surrounded by two untouched blitzers who were on him before he could get off a screen. Result: loss of twelve yards and a thirty-nine yard field goal instead of a twenty-seven yard field goal. That field goal looked true, then hooked wildly at the last moment, ending up a foot wide. Result: two referees making the "no" symbol and a 31-28 South Carolina victory, one that has eluded a valiant Gamecock team that had little to show for its multiple close calls against good teams this year. One of those blitzers was WR-turned-QB-turned-FS Syvelle Newton, who's had the weirdest senior year of any player in recent memory. Who else has started games at three different positions as diverse as WR, QB, and FS?

Hell of a game featuring one of my favorite players of the year. Spurrier has a chance to get the Gamecocks to 8-5 with a bowl win. He returns most of a passing game that became highly functional towards the end of the year, has a number of outstanding recruits coming in, and is making way more money than the improverished Miami program
can possibly offer. Could he possibly leave?
