The Raiders seem like a lock to wrap up the first overall selection in the 2007 NFL Draft. But remember, this is the Raiders, meaning that a meaningless victory to knock them out of the top spot is not only a possibility, it is a certainty. It is clear, though, that the Raiders will have one of the top picks in the draft. And now is the perfect time to start looking ahead to the players that could make the teamattractive for Art Shell's replacement. There will be some of you who will object to this. Hey, the Raiders are playing somebody this week. Seriously, who is it? Bet you can't tell without looking it up.
So without further ado, here is the first (in hopefully many) installments of who the Raiders should select with the top overall selection. Actually, this will be a list of guys the Raiders should probably draft, but likely won't, going instead for the second coming of Tony Mandarich.
First up, Notre Dame quarterback Brady Quinn.
Case for Quinn: Quinn plays for Charlie Weis, meaning that playing for another fat guy like Art Shell would be a breeze. He obviously knows well enough to stay away from the coach at the buffet line. Quinn, one of the most hyped players in college football history, is prone to under-deliver. That's the Raiders way, recently.
Case against Quinn: Runs a pro-style offense at Notre Dame. That's something they just don't do in Oakland.
Conclusion: Quinn would actually be a good fit for the Raiders. His sister already wears a ton of eye makeup, meaning that she would fit right in with the Raiders fans. Quinn, as a senior, also has shown a knack for losing to Notre Dame's biggest rivals, Michigan and USC. In fact, he got blown out in both games. In other words, he would fit right in with the Raiders philosophy of losing to conference rivals.
If Quinn could forget all of that professional mumbo-jumbo he learned from Weis, he would be the perfect Raiders quarterback.
