James Laurinaitis James Laurinaitis won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy on Tuesday night. The Nagurski trophy is annually awarded to the nation's best defensive player, and to be honest I didn't really think Laurinaitis had a shot at it only being a sophomore. He's the first ever sophomore to win the award, which has been around for 14 years.

James finished the season with 100 tackles, 5 interceptions, and four sacks. He actually kind of disappeared during the Michigan game a little bit, but the rest of the season he was one of the more important players on defense, right up there with Quinn Pitcock.

Laurinaitis beat out Michigan cornerback Leon Hall, Florida safety Reggie Nelson, Clemson defensive end Gaines Adams, and Mississippi linebacker Patrick Willis. I probably would have expected Nelson or Hall to win it over Laurinaitis just because of his age, but he really does compare favorably to the rest of this group.
