The Suns seem to have righted the ship after their poor 1-5 start, winning their seventh straight game last night over Sacramento. The team is now 9-1 in their last 10 games, and it's no surprise that Steve Nash is a big part of the turnaround.
The Phoenix press feels that Nash may be having his best season yet, and while it's a little early to make that assessment, the numbers support the argument for now. Nash is averaging just over 20 points and 10 assists per game, a feat which we haven't seen in the NBA for 16 years.
Tim Hardaway was the last player to post a 20 point, 10 assist per game average for the season, doing it in 1992-93 with Golden State. Those Run TMC Golden State teams played a similar style to that of today's Suns, constantly pushing the tempo to create easy baskets in transition.
I think the Hardaway/Nash comparison is a legitimate one. Without going off too much on an MVP voting tangent, we know that the definition of "most valuable" changes from year to year, so Suns fans please save your "but Nash has two MVPs!" arguments for someone who doesn't actually watch basketball.
In case you've forgotten the talents of Tim Hardaway (and since we seem to be on a YouTube kick lately here), check out the air he gets on his jumpers, his step back 3-pointers, and of course the killer crossover in this highlight reel.
