Tom Coughlin is Mr. Oblivious

During the FOX pre-game show yesterday Pam Oliver sat down with Giants head coach Tom Coughlin. Among the line of questioning were the rumors and media hoopla about his job potentially being on the line. She asked Tom what he thought about those rumors and the reporters who print them. He looked baffled for a moment befor replying with "I don't pay attention to that stuff and they don't know what they're talking about."

After that the questioning changed but Pam Oliver later said that once the interview concluded Tom Coughlin looked to his PR guy and asked if there really were those kinds of rumors. His PR guy obviously told him there had been stories in print about his "failures" and his coaching staff.

It amazes me to think that Tom Coughlin is so oblivious to the outside world that he had no idea he and his coaches are under the microscope. At the same time it's rather impressive. He is clearly so zoned in on making the Giants a better football team that he has paid no attention to the media or the outside world. Despite some of the bad decisions throughout the year, that is the sign of a good coach.

I have never been a "fire Coughlin" guy and I don't think I ever will be. I think he does a fine job most of the time but just needs new assistants and coordinators. Tom Coughlin has the rght idea and if he could get some help around him I don't think there would be any questions about his dedication or smarts.
