Falcons coach Jim Mora has apologized for comments on a Seattle radio show that probably sat well with neither Falcons owner Arthur Blank nor University of Washington head coach Ty Willingham. Appearing as a guest on the radio show of former NFL quarterback Hugh Millen, Mora said he loves the University of Washington so much that he'd quit the Falcons to coach there even if Atlanta was in the middle of a playoff run:
"I want Ty to succeed. I want that program to succeed, but if he decides to move on and if they want, I will be there. I don't care if we're in the middle of a playoff run."
Yeah, it's a joke, but clearly not the kind of joke a fan wants to hear when he's hoping his team will make a push for the playoffs. Mora later released a statement saying,
"First and foremost, I'm sorry. Despite my off-the-cuff intentions, what I said was not appropriate for my players, the Falcons organization and our fans, and Tyrone Willingham. I got too relaxed with the radio talk show host, who is a former college roommate, and I got carried away with the banter."
With the apology, I think this story has ended, but somehow I just don't see things ending well in Atlanta for Jim Mora Jr. Joking or not, I think he really would be better off coaching in college.
