Denver Nuggets star and Baltimore native Carmelo Anthony, criticized for his appearance in a street video that warned viewers to "stop stitching," is giving $1.5 million to a youth center in his hometown.Personally, I think it's uncalled for frame this story as "man corrupts youth, then makes up for it." Melo's people told the press that this donation was in the works long before the "stop snitching" fiasco, and it's not like he'd otherwise have no sympathy for kids who grew up on the same blighted streets he did. But the least they could do is not reduce their angle to a joke.
The Carmelo Anthony Youth Development Center, which offers after-school education and recreation programs to about 200 school-age children, will operate under a $1.5 million, five-year grant from Anthony.
Speaking of jokes, peep the True Hoop comments section for some good ones.
