Finally the eternal question has been answered, and we found ought exactly what a functional Washington secondary would look like. Against the best offense in football the Redskins came out playing with a passion that engulfed everyone on the field. Picking a any one player to spotlight would be foolish, so I'm going to talk about a few different members of the defense that contributed a great deal towards today's victory.

  • Andre Carter- The first half of Andre's season made me want to set fire to Dan Snyder's checkbook. There's no other way to say it, he was downright awful. His second half has been a complete revelation and lately he's been playing like a man worthy of his paycheck (almost). Today he tied for the team lead with eight tackles and picked up another sack.
  • Sean Taylor- Once again Taylor showed just how great he can really play. He didn't bite on fakes and he didn't commit any foolish penalties. When he plays the game with his head you can really focus on the incredible plays he makes on a routine basis. He too had eight tackles but perhaps even more important to the outcome was his cleanup efforts while roaming deep in the defensive backfield.
  • Carlos Rogers- HE CAUGHT THE BALL!!! I love Carlos and I was thrilled to see him finally overcome his fatal flaw this week. Even though it wasn't pretty (as my father mentioned roughly three times in one phone conversation) Rogers was able to catch an interception after the initial bobble. Aside from that he was making plays all over the field including some great pass deflections and four solid tackles.
  • Warrick Holdman- Just kidding, he still blows. One god damn tackle? Really? And then after the game I saw Coach Gibbs running through the tunnel with Holdman. The Grandpa was smiling and patting his proud pupil on the shoulder. It's official, Joe Gibbs has a man-crush on Warrick Holdman. Once he burns out of the NFL he'll probably end up driving one of Gibbs' stock cars. He'll be the one attempting to hit every car on the track ... fortunately he'll miss them all.
Tomorrow we'll take a closer look at the continued success of Ladell Betts, Jason Campbell, and the rest of the offense. Except of course for Al Saunders, who is still a putz.
