Mikki Moore, this is your life.
By all accounts, Moore was calm, cool, and collected, but if this were, say, Nate Robinson or any baseball, football, or hockey player, I can assure you this story would not have ended well.
Mikki Moore, a reserve forward on the Nets, was arrested shortly after the team's flight from Toronto touched down at Newark Airport early yesterday, apparently the victim of an erroneous warrant stemming from child-support issues.Detained for 10 hours and Moore didn't raise hell? Guess he's seen Crash and figured it wasn't worth it to get all hot and bothered. (Aside: Crash, without question, was the best movie I saw in 2005. This year? Jury's still out, but the leader right now is probably The Departed. But due to blogging, I haven't yet seen Babel, Borat, or Blood Diamond.) It seems Moore has an actual court date scheduled for Dec. 26, and a computer glitch had him arrested early. Merry Christmas, buddy!
After customs officials received the arrest warrant, Moore was detained for several hours, according to Port Authority police spokesman Mark Lavargna, who said Moore was released at approximately noon yesterday. The Nets' flight landed shortly after midnight following a loss to the Raptors.
More troubling than the erroneous arrest is that Moore appears to be behind on his child-support payments. His salary this year: $1.07 million. Now after taxes, his agent's cut, and his lawyer's cut, Moore's probably only netting in the ballpark of what, $400 or $500k? Don't want to go overboard here, because I'm not fully aware of his situation, but dude, that's embarrassing.
