I was doing my usual NBA You Tube search when I came across a few videos that reminded me of how absolutely dope Tom Chambers was. In the late 80s/early 90s, Tom was one of the best forwards in the Western Conference. First with the Sonics and then with the Suns, Tom was easily the most ferocious white dunker of all-time. His dunking became so famous that the makers of the Lakers vs. Celtics/Lakers vs. Bulls/Bulls vs. Blazers video game series gave Chambers the ability to double clutch dunk from the three point line. Beyond video game lore, Chambers is also one of twenty players in the history of the NBA to score 60 points in a game. Chambers reached the plateau in 1990 in a game against his former Seattle Supersonics squad. Do you think he was trying to prove a point? Anyhow, the best part about that accomplishment is that he did it without hitting any three point attempts.
For a longtime I held a grudge against Chambers for single-handedly knocking out my Showtime Lakers from the 1989-90 NBA playoffs. The Lakers had the best record in the league that year and looked like they were on their way to making their ninth NBA finals appearance of the Magic Johnson era. Of course Chambers and KJ would go on to kill the Lakers momentum, causing many NBA experts to predict the young Suns squad to become the team of the 90s. However, the Chambers led Suns never really reached their potential, and Chambers would eventually have to take on a roll as a sixth man once the Suns traded for Charles Barkley in the summer of 1992.
Anyhow, take a look at some of the sick Chambers highlights I found (after the jump)...
