Jay Glazer of Fox Sports is reporting that the NFL has suspended 49ers wide receiver Antonio Bryant four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy which was a result of Bryant's arrest last month on suspicion of drunk driving. Bryant will miss the final two games of the season and the first two games of next season. If the 49ers happen to make the playoffs those games will count towards the suspension as well.
This doesn't come at a worse time. The 49ers have a shot at the playoffs, and Bryant had one of his best games of the season against the Cardinals in the opening weekend. The 49ers will look to fill the lose of Bryant with receivers Brian Gilmore and Taylor Jacobs.
Bryant was asked to be excused from practice on Thursday due to personal reasons. At the time Mike Nolan said that the team was not disciplining Bryant when it was hinted that he may miss this weekends game. We now know why he asked to leave.
