When you tune into Monday's Auburn-Nebraska game a familiar voice will be coming from your television. Hall of Fame broadcaster Pat Summerall is coming out of retirement to call the 71st Cotton Bowl Classic.
"The Cotton Bowl is the perfect opportunity to get Pat back in the broadcast booth," said Fox Sports President Ed Goren. "There are times when you make a decision and it puts lots of smiles on lots of faces. This is certainly one of those decisions and we could not be happier to have Pat broadcast this event."
"I am very grateful to my friends at Fox Sports for providing me with this assignment," said Summerall. "Some of my fondest sports memories occurred at the Cotton Bowl and I am looking forward to returning to one of the most storied venues in all of sports."
Summerall is best known for his run on CBS Sports and Fox Sports as an NFL play-by-play man. He teamed with legendary coach and color analysis John Madden for more than 20 years on both networks. He last worked for ESPN in 2004.
This will be Sumerall's third Cotton Bowl as a play-by-play man. He also worked the 1964 and 1967 games. The Cotton Bowl kickoffs at 10:40 CT from Dallas on the Fox Network.
