
OK, so when the NFL came out with the flexible scheduling system, did you expect that there would be a single game this season when the Jets would be the reason why the network would protect it from the Sunday night primetime slot? I didn't.
I knew the team was going to be better than expected, but this? Apparently, according to Neil Best of New York Newsday (sports media coverage beat writer) that is just the reason that CBS protected the game:
"... CBS chose to protect the Jets game, according to two league and network officials familiar with the decision, making it ineligible for prime-time consideration ... the Raiders have been a ratings disaster area this season, but the Jets' win-and-they're-in end of the story proved compelling enough to merit protection ..."Protection? Talk about overshooting expectations this season.
