Fiesta Bowl Liveblog: 1st Quarter

It's Boise St. versus Oklahoma in Arizona.

Perfect timing with the Rose Bowl just ending. The FOX Pregaame show is still going. Naturally.

I don't have the energy to discuss Barry Switzer and Jimmy Johnson doing the pregame together. It gets better. Tomorrow it's Johnson and Dave Wannstedt.

Oh, goody. Now we are done with all the ABC TV show ads and can enjoy FOX ads for the rest of the week. I really have to train myself to watch TIVOd sporting events more to skip the ads.
8:45: I don't know why I am surprised that they still haven't kicked off. Thom Brenneman, Barry Alverez and Charles Davis in the booth. Chris Myers on the sideline.

Let's see the Broncos come out with a horse leading the way. The Sooners come out in their schooner. That's a 3 horses on the sidelines tonight. Watch your step.

8:48: Barry Alvarez just stated that Boise State must be able to answer 3 questions to win this game. "What is your name? what is your quest? What is your favorite color?" Okay those weren't the questions, but I didn't hear the real ones once Alvarez practically screamed that BSU had to answer 3 questions.

8:50: BSU won the toss and deferred. Oklahoma will receive.... Eventually.

8:53: And the ball is finally kicked off. Taken at the 3 and taken to the 28.

Adrian Peterson gets 2 on his first carry back from injury. Reverse goes to Peterson for the first down. A third run for Peterson for 2 yards. Apparently Bob Stoops is looking to make up for lost time with Peterson.

Screen pass is incomplete. 3d and 8. Tipped pass. Incomplete. Oklahoma punts.

Caught and brougt down at the 29.

9:00: QB Jared Zabransky keeps and runs for 5. Ian Johnson gets 3 more. Johnson goes for 3 more and the 1st down.

Zabransky tries to go downfield, but it's well covered and the pass sailed 3 yards out of bounds as well.

Short dump pass for 5 yards to Johnson. The TE Schoumann bobbles and hauls it in. Looks like he got the 1st down, barely. BSU took too long to set up the play, and Stoops is challenging the spot.

9:05: Stoops loses his challenge and a TO.

TD Drisen James!!! Zabransky off of play action for 49 yards.

9:12: The Sooners are wrapped up on the kickoff at the 9.

Whoah! QB Paul Thompson fumbles and Boise State recovers.

1st and goal from the 9.

Ian Johnson takes it to the 2. Johnson runs it in with ease for a TD.

14-0 Boise State. 7:28 left.

Stoops really needs to regroup the Sooners.

9:18: Oklahoma starts out at the 17. Pitch to Peterson for only a couple. Thompson dump to Peterson for a 1st down. Thompson tucks and runs for 16 yards.

False start, Oklahoma. Patrick carries left for no gain. Igleisias with a nice catch on the sideline -- the corner missed the ball. A yard short, though. Pitch to Peterson just gets the 1st.

Patrick goes for a few. Jump ball deep. Two Boise defenders and an Oklahoma receiver. Nobody comes down with it. 3d and long. Igleisias catch as Johnson throws a nice one. 1st and 10 from the BSU 22.

Peterson barrells straight ahead for 7. Patrick goes for 4 yards. Patrick again to the 8 yard line.

Pass interference in the endzone. 1st and goal from the 2. Peterson strung out and brought down at the 7.
