Louisville's Now Officially a Football School

... and even with the Orange Bowl victory, it would still be a basketball school if Rick Pitino's squad was even decent. But they're not. There are a lot of Boston Celtics fans out there watching what's happening at Louisville and thinking, "Well, that looks vaguely familiar." The Cardinals are just a mess, and because of a combination of good Petrino and bad Pitino, Louisville's a football school now.

Notre Dame embarrassed them last night. It was like watching a polished, professional heavyweight boxer against a toddler in oversized boxing gloves.

The Irish led the entire way, and at no point past 6:00 into the game was the outcome in question. Notre Dame's a very good team, but Louisville should never ever lose a conference game this bad. It's a very sad looking team right now. Notre Dame got any shot they wanted, and Louisville couldn't execute anything offensively.

The Cardinals' biggest win on the year was probably at home against Ohio, by three points. They've got losses to Dayton, Arizona, UMass, Kentucky, and now Notre Dame. Notre Dame, Arizona, and Kentucky, you can certainly excuse, but still ... this is Louisville. The talent is there. You can blame inexperience if you want, and they do have a very inexperienced backcourt with Edgar Sosa and Jerry Smith. But you can pin that on Pitino and his recruiting strategies, too.

They were projected to finish pretty high in the Big East, and it's becoming pretty clear that this isn't going to happen.
