With NFL head coaching jobs beginning to open, we'll profile some of the candidates to fill those openings.

Name: Ken Whisenhunt

Current job: Offensive coordinator, Pittsburgh Steelers

Past jobs: Assistant coach, New York Jets, 2000; assistant coach, Cleveland Browns, 1999; assistant coach, Baltimore Ravens, 1997-98

Pros: Has an imaginative approach to the game that mixes a power running attack with plenty of trick plays.

Cons: No head coaching experience. Had better credentials last year, when he was coming off a Super Bowl, than this year, when the offense stagnated.

Conclusions: He's originally from Atlanta, a Georgia Tech grad, and spent four years playing tight end for the Falcons. That makes him seem like the perfect fit to replace Jim Mora. Combine that with the fact that, unlike other candidates such as Ron Rivera and Cam Cameron, Whisenhunt doesn't have any other priorities right now, and he seems like the candidate to beat in Atlanta.
