Nuggets Trade Earl Boykins To Bucks

In a somewhat surprising move, the Nuggets have agreed to trade mini-guard Earl Boykins to the Milwaukee Bucks for Steve Blake. Denver also is sending over bench warmer Julius Hodge in the deal, that is said to be motivated by Denver's desire to steer clear of the luxury tax.

The deal is a surprise because Boykins has been playing very well for Denver as of late. He's scored 20 points in eight of the ten games he's played with A.I., but maybe they were simply showcasing him while planning to trade him the entire time. Denver will certainly have no shortage of scoring once Carmelo is back, so I guess they can afford to let Earl go.

Meanwhile for the Bucks, this is a smart move that should help with their short-term scoring problems. Michael Redd is out 4-6 weeks, and Mo Williams is out two weeks as well. That's a combined 46 points a game that the Bucks will be missing, so Boykins' scoring at the guard spot should be just what the team needs to get them through the next month. With the way the Eastern conference is shaping up, a borderline playoff team like the Bucks can't afford to go through any stretch without their key players, so it's nice to see them make a move to stay in the hunt.
