Although the Jets made it through a season successfully, the goal to build a championship team will demand that they add both better players as well as more core guys to their roster in the offseason. With Mangini and Tannenbaum now in their second full offseason here are some names you should expect not to see with the Jets next season.
Justin McCareins - McCareins lost his starting job in training camp to the third year receiver Jerricho Cotchery. Although McCareins contributed during the season, he thinks he should be a starter and has publicly stated he wants to be "where's I am wanted."
Kevan Barlow - With an expected salary of $3.25 million next year, Barlow might be back, but not at that price tag. He has made public statements about his desire to return to the Jets and his devotion to Mangini saying "I'll leave that up to my agent ... but I'm sure something can be worked out."
Derrick Blaylock - Routinely in the pre-season, I noted Blaylock's sheer inability to pick up the blitz in time. After just two games, Blaylock was de-activated and never was seen on the field again for the rest of the season. There is no way that he returns to the team.
Adrian Jones - After being pushed from LT by D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Jones lost his job at Right Tackle as well to Anthony Clement, a cast-off from the 49ers. Jones also was arrested during the season for a DUI, and basically has been holding a roster spot since then. It's hard to say what the team will do, since they have him under contract and Anthony Clement is a free agent. Jones though is undersized, so pairing him with D'Brickashaw might not be the best idea.
