The guy who was just fired by the bottom-feeding Arizona Cardinals refuses to interview for the open head coaching position with the Oakland Raiders. I'm not sure if that says more about Dennis Green or the Oakland Raiders. It was reported that Green had an interview scheduled, but ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli says that Green's agent indicated that he wasn't interested in a meeting.
It's not quite clear from the Pasquarelli article whether Green just wants nothing to do with the job (Pasquarelli says it's a "long shot" that Green would take the job, even if it was offered), or that he just doesn't think he should have to interview for it.
Either case, in my opinion, would be an example of arrogance from a guy who is in no position to be arrogant. If Bill Cowher or Bill Parcells said, "No, I won't interview, my body of work speaks for itself," that's one thing. But if Dennis Green's going to let his body of work speak for itself, that body of work is going to say, "Yeah, that Dennis Green guy? He's not very good."
None of this is to say that Green would be a bad choice for the Raiders. He might not be. But I don't know that he's in a position to feel like he's above interviewing for something.
