NFL Network's Adam Schefter is reporting that the Oakland Raiders will name USC offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin their next head coach. The 31-year-old Kiffin is one of the youngest and least experienced men ever to become an NFL head coach, although the same could have been said of John Madden, Mike Shanahan and Jon Gruden when Raiders owner Al Davis hired each of them to be head coach.

Schefter was the first person to report that the Raiders would part ways with head coach Art Shell. At the time, the Raiders bashed Schefter and said his report was unreliable, but it ended up being correct.

Kiffin, who played quarterback at Fresno State, is the son of longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin. Lane Kiffin has a reputation as being a particularly good coach of wide receivers, which is good news -- getting Randy Moss to play up to his potential will be one of his biggest jobs in Oakland.
