Steve Nash seems very irritable for someone who might be having another MVP season. Nash went on a little rant when he was asked about All-Star weekend, saying among other things that the players "get screwed" due to the collective bargaining agreement forcing past winners to re-enter the skills contests:
"We kind of get screwed. I told them the last two years that I would do it for them. Two years ago, I said, 'OK, I'll do it for you this time. It's the last time. I'm never going to do it again because I've done it almost every year of my career.' And then the next year, they said, 'you've got to do it because you have to defend,' so I begrudgingly did it. Now, they're saying it's the collective bargaining agreement so I have to do it."
"It's already difficult enough on my wife and kids that we're always on the road as it is. So then for our one break to be even more busy than we are during the regular season is difficult. Obviously, on the other hand, it's a huge honor."
Notice how Nash kind of realizes at the end that he's coming off as an enormous [jerk] and mentions that "it's a huge honor," only after bashing the event and sounding pissed for two paragraphs. Is it really that much of a chore to participate in the skills contests? All-Star weekend is a series of events that are for the fans. You know, the ones that make it possible for you to play a sport for a living and give that family of yours a lifestyle that most people only dream of.
Anyone else think that Nash is the a-hole here, or am I completely off base?
