What About Rob Ryan?

Lost in the, uh, euphoria of the Lane Kiffin hire is the impact this will have on defensive coordinator Rob Ryan. What must he be thinking right now. Well, other than, "Where did this stain on my sweatshirt come from?"

But imagine, if you will, that you are in Ryan's position. You were the only guy on the entire Raiders coaching staff that had a clue last year, your defense the only bright spot in one of dimmest years in Raiders history. Yet, while you are out scouting players down at the Senior Bowl, some wet-behind the ears kid is hired as head coach. You would scream nepotism, except that you and your brother have jobs because you dad was in the NFL. But still, what has this kid done? His only NFL experience comes from being a gopher for his dad, working as a quality control guy for one year. The kid was hired, even though Steve Sarkisian has said that he was the one who had control of play calling at USC. Seriously, it would be kind of a reach for a school like Utah State to hire Kiffin and he is hired over you... the scariest looking defensive coordinator in the league. What's up with that?

Well, you couldn't blame Ryan if he started sending out his resume. Some new NFL coaches around the league are starting to put together their coaching staffs and it might behoove you to take a look at what is out there. Maybe even at the college level.
