David Stern's minimum age rule forced Kevin Durant to go to Texas when he might otherwise have gone to the NBA. Given that he's the best player in college basketball this year, the minimum age rule has been good for Texas. It's hard to argue with a guy who can do this:

But does Durant wish he had gone to the NBA and made millions of dollars this year?

"I'd have struggled, man," he says. "I would have wanted to spend all my money on stupid stuff. I'd have wanted to buy everybody else everything. It would have been a disaster, I think.

"Outside of basketball, I don't know what I would have done. I think my mama would have had to quit her job just to look after me."

It's impressive that Durant is able to see the bright side of a new rule costing him millions of dollars. And it's great getting to see guys like Durant and Greg Oden in the NBA this year -- the biggest college basketball story of the season is the way freshmen who wouldn't otherwise be here are making an impact. But I think the mere fact that Durant can recognize his own immaturity is a sign that he's not as immature as he thinks he is. And even if he would have spent his money on stupid stuff, isn't that his right?
