Recruiting Complexity Hits Indiana
Here's the good news: Indiana got an early boost from its 2007 recruiting class with two players already enrolled in classes this semester.
Kevin Burrus, a junior college transfer, and Chris Hagerup, a punter/quarterback, are in school and involved with the Hoosiers' off-season workout program. Both will participate in spring practice and will have a jump on the other newcomers heading into August camp.
The 6-2, 258-pound Burrus is expected to challenge for a starting defensive end spot, which is what you'd expect from a junior college transfer. He played at Indianapolis Ben Davis High School and Coffeyville (Kansas) Community College before coming to IU. He's the brother of Hoosier defensive tackle Keith Burrus.
The 6-5 Hagerup was brought in to replace graduating punter Tyson Beattie. He graduated in December from high school in Whitefish Bay, Wis.
Now the bad news -- it seems linebacker-defensive end Josh Robinson has decommitted from IU and now expected to go to Southern Methodist. Robinson had announced for the Hoosiers this week, then changed his mind the next day. Could he change his mind again? We'll have to see. Signing day isn't until Feb. 7, so anything can happen.
