A regular feature profiling each of the 17 candidates for enshrinement in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Name: Gary Zimmerman

Position: Tackle

Career: 1984-85 L.A. Express (USFL),
1986-92 Minnesota Vikings, 1993-97 Denver Broncos

Pros:
Named to two NFL All-Decade Teams, in both the 1980s and 1990s. First- or second-team All-Pro honors eight times, seven Pro Bowls.

Cons:
As good a career as Zimmerman had, he's up against a very good class of offensive linemen. His best chance of getting in was probably 2005, when he was eligible and no offensive linemen made the cut.

Verdict: In another year Zimmerman might be a good choice, but with so many good offensive linemen on this year's ballot, he falls short.
He gets a vote of NO.

Previous votes:
NO: Richard Dent, Fred Dean, Ray Guy, Michael Irvin, Bob Kuechenberg, Art Monk, Andre Reed, Charlie Sanders
YES: Russ Grimm, Gene Hickerson, Bruce Matthews, Paul Tagliabue, Thurman Thomas
Note: By rule, the Hall of Fame must induct between three and six new members.
