The Sun-Herald of South Mississippi, Brett Favre's home-town paper, is reporting that Favre has decided he will return for the 2007 NFL season. In an interview with the paper, Favre said,

"I am so excited about coming back. We have a good nucleus of young players. We were 8-8 last year and that's encouraging.

"My offensive line looks good, the defense played good down the stretch. I'm excited about playing for a talented young football team."

The paper said Favre told the team this morning about his decision to return. NFL Network's Steve Mariucci confirmed the report after speaking to Favre live on the air. The decision comes as welcome news to his favorite receiver, Donald Driver, and it means the Packers will not be in full-scale rebuilding mode this season.

It also leads to some questions, though. Mainly, what kind of team will the Packers be this season? Although they weren't eliminated from the playoff race until the final week of the season, that says more about the quality of the NFC than it does about the quality of the Packers. Are the Packers a legitimate contender in 2007? In the topsy-turvy NFL, they certainly could be, but it seems unlikely.
