We talked previously at NFL FanHouse about how the K-ball, the special, brand-new ball that the NFL brings out on kicking plays, may have cost the Cowboys a playoff game when Tony Romo dropped a snap on a field goal attempt against the Seahawks. Tonight the K-ball was fumbled on back-to-back plays, first when Colts holder Hunter Smith just dropped the hold on an extra point, keeping the score 7-6 instead of letting the Colts tie it 7-7, and then when Chicago's Gabe Reid dropped the ensuing kickoff.
Of course, the K-ball might have had nothing to do with it: On the next play, we saw our third fumble in a row, when Joseph Addai mishandled Peyton Manning's handoff, and the K-ball wasn't in use on that one. More likely, this is about the rainy conditions in Miami, and for the first time ever we're seeing the weather affect a Super Bowl.
