Today's Times has an update from Bob Condotta regarding the controversial running back Michael Houston. If you recall, Houston showed up with some some fanfare, a running back who originally went to Texas and played briefly as a true frosh for the Longhorns national title team before moving on to Seattle.
Houston has had a run-in with the law regarding an alleged theft of a taxi last fall, a strange deal all the way around, and was suspended from team activities. However per Condotta, Houston was allowed back into the fold, but now, it appears he will be leaving. While Houston wouldn't confirm or deny the story, Realdawg.com has a members-only story that has Houston confirming his transfer.
So where does this leave the UW running attack? Well, things are just fine, thank you. Louis Rankin (pictured) will be the incumbent senior starter at tailback next year and should continue to get better. Super-recruit JR Hasty, an academic casualty last year, is reportedly doing well with grades and should be ready to compete for playing time this fall. And, as Condotta also mentioned, UW signed five running backs for the 2007 class, so there will be a real influx of young talent on the way.
