Bernie Williams Continues Stubborness

A few days back, I mentioned that Bernie Williams, after the Yankees offered him a non-guaranteed contract, still hadn't shown up at spring training.

Well, it looks like he's probably not going to show up at all.
Bernie Williams rejected the Yankees' offer of a minor league contract and will wait to see if a guaranteed job opens up for him on the team.

New York manager Joe Torre spoke with Williams last week and tried to reach him, without success, on Sunday.

"Bernie told me he had talked with Joe. Other than the invite, there wasn't any information that led him to believe he would be a member of the team," Williams' agent, Scott Boras, said Tuesday. "He's continuing to work out, will wait to see if their position changes."
Um, Bernie, come on man. Swallow your pride. The Yankees are at least giving you an opportunity to be on the team this year. As I said earlier, you're old. There's better talent on the team than you. Just suck it up and show up to spring training. They're trying to do you a bit of a favor here for all you've done for them, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem to you. Really, they are.

Although, I can't say I blame you, with these two knuckleheads dominating the spring training storylines thus far. I mean you could always go to Houston. I hear they like picking up old Yankee players over there from time to time. Just a thought.
