Michael Irvin to NFL Network?

Now that ESPN has told Michael Irvin it won't retain his services, where will he go next? Leonard Shaprio of the Washington Post has an idea:

The sad part is I suspect Irvin won't be unemployed for very long. If I were a betting man, I'd venture that the NFL Network people already are preparing to make him an offer. Perhaps they could pair him with another despicable former player, Sterling Sharpe, who made a career of never speaking to the media when he played for the Green Bay Packers, then became a media hotshot himself, initially courtesy of ESPN before he also was let go. Good riddance to both.

I take it Shapiro doesn't think highly of Irvin. If Irvin does join NFL Network, I'll be very disappointed. Since its inception, NFL Network has been much more about substance than style. Nearly all the network's analysts (Steve Mariucci, Marshall Faulk, Rod Woodson, etc.) are more interested in breaking down the game than they are in talking about themselves and their buddies, as Irvin usually does. Hiring Irvin would be a big disappointment for NFL Network.
