Moises Alou Has a Training Regimen We All Can Do

Moises AlouWhen a player hits .301 over 14 years in the majors and can hold down a starting job at 40 years old, it's kind of hard to argue with his training methods. From Newsday:
Moises Alou doesn't credit any miracle diet or magic elixir for his ability to remain one of the game's most accomplished hitters at the age of 40. He doesn't scarf down egg whites by the dozens like Julio Franco. Or run beyond the brink of exhaustion like Orlando Hernandez.

His secret? Alou counts the calories on the side of a 12-ounce can.

"I drink light beer," he said.

Hey, every little bit helps, and if it means the Mets have to restock the clubhouse refrigerator with Alou's nutritional beverage of choice, that's fine with them.
It's too bad Alou doesn't live in Japan because it sounds like he's leaving endorsement money on the table.

In any event, I don't recommend all of you other 40-year-olds follow Alou's path for longevity in the workplace. For one, I don't think your boss would appreciate walking by your cubicle and seeing a two-four of Miller Lite tucked under your desk. And while Alou probably has a solution to prevent papercuts for life, it's just not worth the awkward situations you might run into when standing next to the guy from accounting at the urinal.
